The Same, But Different

I have always considered myself a "late bloomer". Other girls developed way earlier than me- first bras, makeup, social events, etc. When most were staying out partying, I kept busy by playing Magic the Gathering until 4am with my brother. I spent a lot of time by myself drawing, reading, writing, and listening to music.   My idea of fun, and still is, is sitting at a cafe and chatting with friends.

I moved to Orange County when I was 21.  During this time, I spread my wings and experienced new people, new surroundings, and new situations.  When I first moved there, I recall Jeff giving me a hard time because I spent nights playing solitaire, reading, and writing.  He helped me socialize... forced me, actually.

When I moved back to the Bay Area after having Brooklynn at 24 years old, I worked myself day and night.  I felt like a kid in an adult world. I met some outstanding people at my job who eventually became good friends.  I grew professionally and spiritually during this time.  Some of the most difficult times were in my twenties, but I am grateful for every minute.

Now that I am in my thirties, I am up against new things- aging, parenting, work-life balance, romance, and financial security.  I still spend a lot of time alone reading, writing, and listening to music. I still love good conversations over a cup of Joe and I still like socializing every once in awhile, too. So weird that you can change so much, but still stay the same.

Recently, Brooklynn and I went on a mild hike with some buddies.  Along the way, we found a caterpillar.  We have been looking for caterpillars all summer without success.  It so happens that we find one with our buddies.  We scooped the little fellow up and took him home. Brooklynn named him Harry.

A few days after we brought him home, Harry went into his chrysalis.  We checked on Harry every day. We became worried that maybe we had killed him (I don't have a good track record with live creatures).  After a week of anticipation, Harry awoke from his slumber and we were privy to one of the most beautiful things in nature.  His transformation.  At this time, Brooklynn thought it was fitting to give Harry a "more beautiful" name.

Welcome, Princess Harry.
