SF Giants Fan Fest

Brooklynn and I went to our very first SF Giants Fan Fest today.  Although we were prepared for bad weather (it has been raining all week), to our surprise the weather was perfect.  It turned out to be a gorgeous day in San Francisco. 

We started off with a good ol' all-american breakfast at... Denny's. Brooklynn's choice.  We split the chicken fried steak and eggs (our usual whenever at Denny's), scarfed it down, and set off to San Francisco.   Brooklynn loves going to the city. We usually BART, but today we decided to drive and after struggling to find free parking, I remembered why we BARTed so often.  

Once parked and into the ballpark, we had a great time walking through the player's clubhouse (aka locker room), goofing around in the press boxes, playing tag on the field, and checking out the players BTW- Brian Wilson is looking good this year. Hubba hubba. *wink*  

Brooklynn also got the chance to showoff her gangster hitting skills in the Kids Zone.  After she cut in line stealth-like (auntie Libbi has taught her well), she was finally up to bat.  As I watched nervously, a friend assured me she would do just fine; however as she took the batter's box and had her hand placement corrected by one of the workers, it dawned on me that maybe this wasn't the best idea.  After about 15 pitches without even the slightest connection, I called off the beating, err... pitching and took Brooklynn out of the box.  She seriously can't hit.  She's definitely my kid.

Brooklynn was SUCH a good girl today that I had promised her a SF Giants Build-a-Bear to remember the day by.  To our dismay, the workshop at AT&T Park was closed.  Since I promised her the darn bear, we drove to the nearest Build-a-Bear we could find... in San Mateo. Although slightly out of our way, it was definitely worth the trouble.  There is nothing like keeping your promise to your kiddo and seeing them happy by doing so.  There she picked out her bear, dressed him, and named him... Wilson.  Hubba hubba. *wink*

We can't wait for next year's Fan Fest, but more importantly... this year's Opening Day!

My Bird Has Left the Nest

 Last week I flew over 2,000 miles to drop my teen off at college, then hopped on my return flight alone. It was almost unbearable. Now, I consider myself a pretty tough cookie. I am not someone who lives in fantasy land. I like realism and appreciate brutal honesty. In fact, my nickname amongst my girlfriends is Asshole because I tell people like it is. I know that my daughter will be back home for summer and holidays. I know that this would not be our last good memory together. Yet even still, I lost my cool during this drop off process. Several times during the trip, my teen had tears fall. Each time, I felt nothing but parental wisdom flow through me to comfort her. She was going to be fine. Enjoy water polo and have fun with her teammates. She'd be home in just over a few months. THIS WAS NO BIG DEAL. The Music in Me

Today Brooklynn started guitar lessons in hopes that by the time she is in high school, she is a decent guitarist. Nana was nice enough to give Brooklynn an old guitar she had laying around. Since Brookie is a lefty, we had to restring the guitar for a left-handed player. The pick guard now lays on the wrong side, but it doesn't seem to bother her. She has names this guitar "Dawn" for it's "colors of the sunrise". From here on out, I promise to encourage her, expose her, and support her guitar endeavors. I have signed up to take guitar lessons with her for encouragement, have started taking her to concerts with live musicians, and will always take the time to practice with her. I even listen to countless hours of Miley Cyrus music and refrain from slitting my wrists while doing so. Oh, the sacrifices we make for our kids. Good luck, Bstarr!
