Brooklynn in New York: Day Four

Although we had set some aggressive plans for today, this morning I let Brooklynn sleep in.  It was our last day in New York and I had thought that our trip would seem longer if we took our time rather than rushing.  To my dismay, taking our time put a little wrench in our morning. Everyone seemed to be a little "off" as the day started a little bumpy as we made our way to the ferry.

However, the turbulence didn't last long.  Once we realized the line to the Statue of Liberty was way too long, we made our way to Wall Street. The security to get into the New York Stick Exchange is rediculous. I thought it must be nice to work there, but it was brought to my attention that any job that requires THAT much security is too high profile and dangerous.  I'm fine with being low pro. =]

While we ate lunch, we got an authentic Rescue Me show from the real firefighters of NYC.  A nearby building was on fire and 5 NYFD engines came to the rescue.  I swore I felt a little sick from smoke inhalation and I might require the attention of one of those fine looking firefighters, er, I mean hard working firefighters. *wink*

We also got the opportunity to walk around Ground Zero where the Twin Towers once occupied.  If you haven't had the chance to visit the area, you really don't have any clue as to how massive these towers were and what it must have been like to experience them crumble to the ground.  Amazing. When 9/11 occurred, I was 6 months pregnant and I remember thinking to myself whether I wanted to raise a child in a time of such things.  I was already scared being a young mother, but the thought of bringing a child into a time of war, terrorism, etc. was sobering.  The events of 9/11 only further validated giving Brooklynn her name as a way to remember the current events during her creation.

The began to come to an end and we needed to make it to JFK airport by 6pm.  We hiked it back to the hotel, caught a cab, and enjoyed our last New York meal in the terminal.  Although we didn't get to the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn, or the Bronx Zoo, the trip could not have been more perfect.  Again I am reminded about how lucky I am to have a wonderful daughter, plenty of love in my life, and quirky friends and family to keep me on my toes.

As we were on our way home, I couldn't help but notice the beautiful sunset on the horizon leading us home...
