Brooklynn in New York: Day One
Brooklynn has been counting down the days until her Spring Break New York trip for over a week. She had a busy itinerary planned: Natural History Museum, Bronx Zoo, Broadway, Central Park, and the Statue of Liberty. Accomplishing half of this list will be amazing.
I don't know about you, but when I was a kid, flights to Hawaii or Florida were TORTUROUS. 5+ hours with only books??? Brooklynn is lucky to fly Virgin America to New York. In addition to the plane's funky lounge decor along with it's personal TVs per passenger, she also had her iTouch, Nintendo DS, Barbies, and coloring books for the ride. You know, only the necessities. Forget sleep. This girl was UP the entire flight and enjoyed every minute of it.
Since we didn't get to our hotel until almost 8pm, we decided to keep things mellow tonight by not making any plans and seeing where the Big Apple took us. We walked around town, visited Grand Central station, and ended up at Rockefeller Center as Brookie wanted to see the ice rink. The weather was perfect- just cool enough to cool you down while walking.

Brooklynn had no problem making herself at home in the hotel suite. The bed was so big for the two of us that we could have probably fit 2 more people! Going back home my queen-sized bed will be tough. *sigh

Home for the next 4 days. =]
As we walked through Times Square, we stopped to get some grub at Charlie O's off Broadway. A quaint family-friendly restaurant that served up some mean Parmesan french fries. We'll have to save Nobu for another trip when B* can appreciate sushi. *wink After stuffing our tummies with burgers (and beer) we headed back to the hotel.
We stayed at Morgans Hotel off of Madison Ave. and 37th. It is a *** hotel with an interactive lighted ceiling in the lobby (which Brooklynn HAD to play with every time we were in the lobby). We had a two-room suite with both a king-sized and twin bed on the ninth floor. Brooklynn was in heaven.

As I lay next to her tonight, I thought about how lucky I am to be able afford to take Brooklynn on trips like these in addition to nice dinners, the theatre, museums, etc. Sometimes we get so caught up in the daily grind that we forget just how good we really have it. I am reminded of how tired I am of people nowadays that place a higher value on materials things over precious times like watching your daughter sleep after an exciting first day in New York.
Goodnight, New York. Goodnight, Brooklynn.
