Not Your Average Friday

Today was one of those perfect days that erases all the bad ones from memory. In fact, as I sit and type, I cannot recall how I felt on my last bad day (which was yesterday). *smile*

It started off with me sleeping in for the third day in a row and STILL making my two conference calls starting at 9am. Hi5. I got work done, cleaned up a bit, and was able to make a nice lunch for myself, Jeff, and Brooklynn- baked chicken + cous cous & steamed asparagus. Washed it all down with beer and good conversation. Following lunch, Brooke and her dad spent some quality time at the park flying our dragonfly kite while I dozed off on the couch listening to music. Yes, it was a great afternoon.

When the evening arrived, we had plans to experience Christmas in July with a friend and his son. As we waited to be picked up, us girls freshened up and packed warm clothes for the night. It's always nerve wracking at first getting two kids together because you never know if they will get along, but to my delight, the kiddos were both in good moods and got along fine. This made for such a pleasant outing.

(Us enjoying pretend ice cream treats. b*- chocolate mint. me- chocolate, or course.)

When we arrived at Christmas in July, we quickly learned the festivities weren't as grand as we had thought. In fact, I think my parents' three-car garage is bigger than than the street fair. Thankfully, size didn't matter in this case (har har) and the kids had fun regardless as they enjoyed walking, dancing, ice skating, toy stores, etc. After we had seen everything the fair had to offer (about 25 minutes later), we decided on dinner + desert at Strizzi's.

(Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.... in July)

Once we had finished consuming fettucini alfredo, mac & cheese, rigatoni bolanaise, asiago ravioli, 3 glasses of wine, & a chocolate fudge brownie sundae we decided to stop in the local coffee shop, Panama Cafe. In addition to enjoying a cup of joe, we all sat and listened to a tw0-man band cover songs such as Smokey Robinson's "Cruisin'" and Jack Johnson's "With My Own Two Hands". Some people feel at home on a stage, some behind turntables, others in a hospital. I always feel most like myself and at home in coffeehouses. Being here with my kiddo only further fueled my love for coffeehouses and reaffirms that I need to be working towards that lifelong goal of opening one up.

with my own two hands
Make it a better place
with my own two hands
Make it a kinder place
with my own two hands"

I could not think of a better way to end such a great day. What made the day so enjoyable was that everything happened so effortlessly. No rushing around, no conflict. Just happiness. If someone were to ask me how I want to live the rest of my days, I will definitely recall on today as an example. Coincidentally Brooke asked me the meaning of the word "satisfied" on the way home. I told her it meant to be happy with exactly what they had and/or did, without needing more.

Today, I was satisfied.
