Death Cab for Cutie

Image
Although I had planned to the Greek Theatre in Berkeley early to partake in an afternoon picnic on the grassy area, we arrived fairly late BUT just in time for the perform ance .  We watched as the sunset cast an amazing blend of the most romantic colors behind the stage. The view and music was captivating.  Sometimes you come across bands that just move your soul. Perhaps its the time, your mood, your age, or your mood.  For whatever reason it is, Death Cab for Cutie has become one of those bands for me.   Apparently band is made up of mathematicians and their words, music, etc. are carefully constructed to reach perfection.  The lead vocals almost always bring a tear to my eye.  Perhaps it's the honesty mixed in with the extreme hesitancy and mysteriousness that grabs me.  The combination is perfect.    The experience encouraged me to try my first stab at painting.  I had envisioned this to be so much more than one layer of paint, but when the first layer went on, I realized it...

Brooklynn Graduates... from Kindergarten

Image
Brooklynn and Mrs. Bittaker Brooklynn absolutely loved kindergarten.  Mrs. Bittaker also happens to be the quintessential kindergartener teacher- sweet, cute, tiny, and so happy everyday.  We really owe a ton to Mrs. Bittaker to giving Brookie such a wonderful beginning to her education. Choate, here we come!

Open House

"Me and Mom" Tonight was Brooklynn's first Open House at school. She has been been anticipating this event for weeks. Her classroom is one of the most fun classrooms I have seen and she really couldn't have a better kindergarten teacher than Mrs. Bittiker. B loves school and Mrs. Bittiker plays a huge part in that. Some of the highlights from tonight were short stories written and drawn by Brooklynn herself, her classes' very own butterfly exhibit, a daily journal, having her read a book to me, and some impressive artwork that will definitely make it in our art gallery at home. So very proud of you, Brooklynn! xoxo

The Same, But Different

I have always considered myself a "late bloomer". Other girls developed way earlier than me- first bras, makeup, social events, etc. When most were staying out partying, I kept busy by playing Magic the Gathering until 4am with my brother. I spent a lot of time by myself drawing, reading, writing, and listening to music.   My idea of fun, and still is, is sitting at a cafe and chatting with friends. I moved to Orange County when I was 21.  During this time, I spread my wings and experienced new people, new surroundings, and new situations.  When I first moved there, I recall Jeff giving me a hard time because I spent nights playing solitaire, reading, and writing.  He helped me socialize... forced me, actually.   When I moved back to the Bay Area after having Brooklynn at 24 years old, I worked myself day and night.  I felt like a kid in an adult world. I met some outstanding people at my job who eventually became good friends.  I grew professionally and spiritually during t...

A Ryan-Foust Baby is coming!

Image
We are all awaiting the arrival of the offspring of Tricia and John. There hasn't been a newborn amongst the friends in a long time and I don't see Gavin often because he's down in Pasadena. I'm looking forward to holding and babysitting a baby again. Little Ethan is due on May 26th, but I'm hoping he comes early. Brooklynn and I can't wait to hold and smother him with kisses! Biermp.
